The BP oil spill in 2010 was very harmful to our local ecosystem and the animals that call it home. After the spill, the Gulf of Mexico was especially dangerous for new sea turtle hatchlings. The South Walton Turtle Watch, made up of our local friends, family, and neighbors went to great lengths to identify turtle nests, watch for hatchlings to be born, and transfer them to beaches on the east coast to swim in the cleaner Atlantic Ocean. Watch the following youtube video for more information.
Why do you think the Turtle Watch volunteers did this? Was this the right choice to make? What could be the long term effects for these turtles to be moved as hatchlings? What does this tell you about the impact humans have on their environment?
Write your response in 5-10 complete sentences.
